Coastal lifeguard training
To be admitted to the program, you must:
Be 18 years of age or older.
Have a driving license for a car (Category B).
Have good Danish and English skills
See the list here of certificates that we approve.
Be able to work as a lifeguard in American Lifeguard Events for five weeks during the schools’ summer holidays
Have completed an application form
Have completed and passed the entrance exam
The entrance exam lasts two hours and takes place in:
Copenhagen
Nyborg
Aarhus
The entrance exam is held annually in January. Disciplines in the entrance exam:
400 m free in 7.5 minutes (the first 200 m must be swum in a maximum of 3.5 minutes)
25 m polo crawl followed by 25 underwater swimming in a maximum of 50 seconds
150 m salvage in a maximum of 5 minutes (salvage of mannequin)
25 m emergency movement of doll or person (75-80 kg)
Climb up in lifeboat from the water wearing life jacket
International standard
Lifesaving is an international discipline.
We have experience exchange with lifesaving organizations from all over the world in a system to achieve best practice in the field. This means, among other things, that the American training manual for lifeguards has been introduced in the Lifeguard Training, and that we are often visited by American lifeguards to get inspiration to increase safety on Miami beaches.
Open water lifeguard
The Danish Swimming Union’s open lifeguard test is certified by the International Lifeguard Association, and the test meets the minimum requirements for (ALE) International Inland-Open water Lifeguard. The purpose is to train and lifeguard classes teach you how to perform lifesaving services at sea baths, harbor baths and fjords. This includes: being able to inform and guide about bathing safety at lakes, harbors and fjords, monitor bathers in a coverage area and perform rescue operations.
Criteria
Mold test
400 m swimming in a maximum of 7 min 30 sec (first 200 m in a maximum of 3 min 30 sec)
25 m polo crawl, followed by 25 m underwater swimming of a maximum of 60 sec
150 m salvage of doll in a maximum of 5 min
Dive with ABC equipment and collect 3 objects placed at 5 m intervals (minimum depth 3.5 m)
Salvage medium 150 m with ABC equipment and rescue torpedo in a maximum of 4 min
Running / swimming / running (3 * 200 m) ¨on a maximum of 8 min
200m race in a maximum of 40 sec
25 m emergency relocation of person (75-80 kg)
Rescue professional part
Use a throwing line, lifebuoy or similar to rescue the distressed by consciousness, minimum 10 m distance
Use a spine board to handle distressed people with damage to the spine
Coastal lifeguard
The content of the coastal lifeguard test is certified by ILS and meets the requirements of ILS International Surf Lifeguard. The purpose of the coastal lifeguard test is to train and test lifeguards in relation to performing lifesaving service at the beach. This includes: being able to inform about bathing safety at the beach, monitor bathers in a coverage area and carry out rescue operations alone or in collaboration with other coastal lifeguards. The coastal lifeguard differs from the open-water lifeguard by possessing the skills of operating a lifeguard boat.

ABC sample
The test is performed in a pool with a minimum depth of 3.8 m. A mask, flippers and snorkel (ABC) must be used
1. Applying ABC under water
ABC is located on the bottom. Immersion and application of ABC underwater. Safe ascent and emptying of snorkel in the surface.
2. Immersion to the bottom
Stay 30 sec at the bottom, followed by 25 m underwater swimming.

10 m free dive with ABC
200m race in a maximum of 40 sec
3 * 200 m in a maximum of 7 min and 30 sec (200 m run in sand + 200 m swimming + 200 m run in sand).
